Reading Intervention

At Cranbourne Carlisle Primary School we implement ‘Fountas and Pinnell’s’ evidenced based literacy support programs. These are for students in need of extra English Literacy Support especially in reading and comprehension. Levelled literacy Intervention or LLI is supplementary small group intervention designed for children who find reading difficult. The goal of LLI is to bring children to grade level achievement. Children on these programs effectively engage in lessons that address comprehension, vocabulary development, fluency practice, phonics, word study, and writing about reading.

Levelled Literacy Intervention, LLI is a scientifically based system that is designed to prevent literacy difficulties rather than correct long term failure. It has been highly successful in achieving its goal of cutting across the path of literacy failure and bringing children to grade level performance in hundreds of schools. LLI is designed to be used with small groups of children who need intensive support to achieve grade level competencies.

LLI also provides a strong support for children who are learning English as an additional language or EAL children. Through reading, talking and writing about reading they extend their knowledge of the structure of English and expand their use of vocabulary. The LLI lesson is ideal for English Language learners because it provides increased language modelling, small group learning and leveled texts to develop children’s English literacy with support.
