So Much Happening!

There has been so much happening over the last few weeks at CCPS.

Last week was NAIDOC Week with the theme: Always Was, Always Will Be.  This week was an opportunity to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.  We do not have a very large ATSIC community at the school, but our children love the regular Dreamtime stories and activities that our team run for them and it is an important week on our school calendar.

Another important event is Remembrance Day – on the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of the year.   This is the date and time that the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare, at the end of the Second World War.  We held our one minute silence and Mick Sweeney took us through the words of the day: Lest we forget.

Saturday 14th November was Diwali – a festival of lights.  This is one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs, lasting for 5 days.  Our celebration was a little muted this year, but we still acknowledged the event with discussion and displays around the school.

Students with a Disability

The Department of Education has produced a Quick Guide to supporting students with a disability for parents and carers.  It has pooled all the relevant information into one handy document, covering areas such as Student Support Groups, Individual Education Plans, NDIS, transitions and other great information.

NDIS Plan Review Workshop

This year I signed up to the Association for Children with a Disability and they have run some excellent workshops for parents/carers.

This one might be relevant to you:

NDIS Plan Review is a 90 minute online workshop for parents of children with disability.

Covid-19 has meant a lot of changes to the way families can access services for their children with disability. Your family may be accessing more services and doing things quite differently this year which can affect your child’s NDIS plan. If your Plan Review is coming soon it’s a good opportunity to talk to the NDIS Planner about the changes your child needs over the next 12 months.

The Association for Children with a Disability (ACD) is running a FREE, online workshop called NDIS Plan Review, starting in November.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to tailor your child’s plan to their changing needs and goals.

You’ll learn about:

>> Planning for your NDIS Plan Review during Covid-19
>> Informing the Planner how Covid-19 will change your child’s support needs
>> Types of Plan Review
>> Gathering supporting evidence
>> Extending or rolling-over NDIS Plans
>> Evidencing over and underspend

ACD facilitators have children with disability, so they understand how you’re feeling and what to expect in your Plan Review.

Be sure to register ASAP to secure your place.

Bookings are essential.

Friendships

I was talking with some parents today who were wanting some information about how to help their child with friendships at school.  These information sheets were produced by the Kidsmatter Team some years ago but the ideas are still really relevant:

And finally:

Sarah Tappy has gone on leave as she awaits the arrival of her baby.  We are so excited for her and wish her and her family all the best.

I am awaiting the arrival of my first grandchild too – due any day now!  Exciting times
