Week 2 School Newsletter

2 February 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to school.

I trust you all had a restful and fun-filled holiday. Students and teachers have all returned bright and eager, ready for a fabulous year of learning. We are all looking forward to what 2020 will bring.

It was great to see students so eager to be back in their new classrooms and settled from day one. It gave me great pleasure to see students coming in before 9 o’clock and finding a book to read before the bell. One student walked in and before even taking his bag off his back, went excitedly to the classroom bookshelf to choose a book to read before the start of class. Our school has certainly worked hard to instil a love of reading in students that will help them to continue to achieve their best.

We have many new staff who I would like to welcome. I will introduce them formally to the community during our first school assembly in week 3.

We welcome our new Assistant Principals, Anne McDonald, Mick Sweeney and Kerry Bates.

Anne McDonald will be the sub-school Assistant Principal for Foundation to grade 2. Anne will work closely with all students and teachers in Foundation to grade 2 and will be the main contact person after the classroom teacher for parents of students in these levels.

Mick Sweeney will be the sub-school Assistant Principal for grade 3 to grade 6. Mick will work closely with all students and teachers in grade 3 to 6 and will be the main contact person after the classroom teacher for parents of students in these levels.

Kerry Bates is our Wellbeing Assistant Principal and will be here 3 days a week, Monday to Wednesday. Kerry will be overseeing student wellbeing across the school from Foundation to Grade 6. Kerry will coordinate the Program for Students with Disabilities. She will also work closely with Sarah Tappy to further embed our Respectful Relationships program across the school. Last year, the Climate for Learning team applied to become a lead school and were successful. This means our school will be a leader across our school’s network in Respectful Relationships. Congratulations to the team for this great achievement, our students will benefit greatly in the area of social and emotional learning as a result.

We also welcome our new teachers. We have a few teachers who have returned from leave; Jason Leonard –Scott who is teaching 5A, Kelly Clark who is teaching 3A and Shiwei Chen who is teaching LOTE- Mandarin.  We also have many new teachers that have joined us this year; Janelle Kelly (Learning Specialist) who is sharing 4B with Sarah Tappy, Amy Johnson who is teaching 6B, Jemimah Rogers who is teaching 6A. Kaitlyn Thomas who is teaching 4C, Elle Gray who is teaching 3C and Kyla Simpson who is sharing 5C with Matt Johns.

I am looking forward to working with the CCPS school community to achieve great results for our students in 2020.

Yours Sincerely,

Nicky Walker
